What are the three different classes of lever?
1st, 2nd and 3rd class
What are the three components of a lever?
Fulcrum, Load, Effort
How do you work out which class a lever is?
Whichever component is in the middle of the system. Eg if the fulcrum is in the middle, it is 1st class (Remember 1, 2, 3 - F, L, E).
If the load is in the middle, what class of lever is it?
2nd class
If the effort is in the middle, what class of lever is it?
3rd class
Where are there 1st class levers in the body?
Neck - Atlas and Axis
Elbow - when the triceps are the agonist
What are the 2nd class levers in the body?
At the ankle when the gastrocnemius is the agonist.
What are the 3rd class levers in the body?
At the ankle when the tibialis anterior is the agonist.
At the elbow when the biceps is the agonist (This system has MECHANICAL ADVANTAGE)
Which movements can take place in the sagittal plane?
Flexion and Extension
Which movements can take place in the frontal plane?
Abduction and adduction
Which movements can take place in the transverse plane?
Horizontal flexion and extension
Which plane runs in front and behind (divides into left and right)?
Sagittal
Which plane splits the body into top and bottom, running horizontally?
Transverse
Which plane splits the body into front and back?
Frontal
Which axis runs through the belly button and out your back?
Sagittal
