COMPLIANCE AND QUALITY Flashcards
What is Quality ?
the degree of excellence of something
Quality, Healthcare. When asked, most healthcare workers say that they aim to:
provide the best quality care to their patients’
Quality, Healthcare, General Definition.
The overall features and characteristics of a process that bear on its ability to satisfy the stated or implied needs of the patient in a cost effective and timely way:
define the needs of the patient – physical, psychological, financial, etc.
identify features and characteristics that impact on the patient.
measure (evaluate) the level of satisfaction of the patient’s needs.
balance quality with cost and practicality.
Quality, Medical Imaging relates to every part of the medical imaging process… identify the parts..
- patient privacy and safety
- service measures (e.g. how long had to wait upon arrival, how long the examination took, how long before images reported, speed and access to care)
- Training of MRTs, Radiologists, - Nurses, Support Staff.
- accuracy and expertise
- technology and equipment quality
- ongoing quality assurance
- patient satisfaction
Quality Control
Define “control”
An evaluation to indicate needed corrective responses; the act of guiding a process in which variability is attributable to a constant system of chance causes.
Quality Control
Define “ quality control”
The observation techniques and activities used to fulfill requirements for quality.
&
Quality Control is the individual tests used to check that the performance of the technology and equipment meet expectations.
Quality assurance, define assurance.
The act of giving confidence, the state of being certain or the act of making certain.
Quality assurance,

QA is an overall process
QA relates to ALL aspects of quality
QA must be continuous and on-going
QA is never finished
Remember that when it comes to a Quality Assurance programme for Medical Imaging you need to include the full process, which commences when the referring Doctor says to the patient … “…..
“I am going to send you for an x-ray (or MRI, Ultrasound, etc.)”.
Quality Assurance – Medical ImagingORS Requirements?
QA programme. Primary goal - accurate and timely diagnosis. Secondary goal - minimisation of radiation exposure & risk, discomfort and cost to the patient and community.
Defined responsibilities
Equipment checked at appropriate intervals. Results recorded in an equipment log.
Control limits for all parameters measured
Frequency of tests should be determined by the likelihood and consequences of an error beyond acceptable tolerances
CT facility tests need to conform with additional requirements.

Equipment checked at appropriate intervals. Results recorded in an equipment log.
what are the important Concepts for a QA Programme? There are 7 identify first 4.
- Acceptance Testing. Whenever a new piece of equipment is installed, acceptance tests should be performed.
Control Limits. These are the upper and lower levels that a measured parameter is allowed to fall within.
Reject/Retake AnalysisAn image that is rejected and will not be used for the patients diagnosis.
Equipment LogsDates and details of the QA tests perform, the results received and any corrective action taken.
