Picornavirus
Presentation of DVH…
- 2do - 3wo
- Acute onset, highly infectious
- Adults = immune to infection (7+wks)
Clinical signs of DVH…
Dead birds in good condition, opisthotonus
Ddx of DVH…
DVE, bacterial septicaemia, mycotoxicosis
Lesions seen in DVH…
Liver = enlarged, petecchial/ ecchymotic
Fatty kidneys
Septicaemia carcasses
Dx of DVH…
Blood/ organ samples- virus isolation
Control of DVH…
- Breeders = live/ inactivated vaccines
- Ducklings = live vaccine
Aetiology of DVE…
Herpesvirus
Clinical signs of DVE…
Ataxia, eye discharge/ pasty eyelids, nasal discharge, diarrhoea (+/- blood), photophobia
Lesions seen in DVE…
- Haemorrhages in tissues
- Free blood in body cavities
- Petechial haemorrhages in visceral organs
- Haemorrhage on oesophageal mucosa
- Necrotic foci on liver/ oesophagus
Dx of DVE…
- History, clinical signs, lesions
- Virus isolation, PCR
Control of DVE…
Biosecurity, avoid contact w/ wild birds, live/ inactivated vaccine
Presentation of AI…
Small decrease in mortality, drop in egg production, <feed/ water consumption
