the soviet responded to nato as this was for the eastern block of europe. these treaties were ideologically opposed throughout the cold war and ended when the soviet collapsed (1991)

reasons for cuban missile crisis
khrushchev put missiles in cuba because he wanted to protect cuba from the dangers he thought america would do to cuba. he wanted to redress the balance as well because america had missiles in turkey
