Formation of a spit
An accumulation of sand with one end attached to the land and the other reaching out across an estuary. Large amounts of sediment are transported by longshore drift and where the coastline suddenly changes direction to leave a sheltered shallow area of water.
Headland
A high area of land that extends out into the sea
Bay
A low lying area of land on the coast
Cave
A small opening in a headland
Arches
A natural rock formation often created by two sea caves eroding backwards towards each other until the back walls disappear
Stack
A tall piece of rock separated from the headland
Sandbar
A linear landform extending into the sea and across a bay
Lagoon
A shallow area of water separated from the sea by a sand bar
