A
Used in patients to confirm Latent TB; when
- no features of active TB
- Positive Mantoux test

How is the ‘Mantoux test’ carried out?
A
- Injecting tuberculin (tb protein not live) into the intradermal space on forearm.
- Test is read after 72 hours

How is IGRA test caried out?
A
- sample of blood is mixed with antigens from TB bacteria
- white blood cells if sensitised will release interferon gamma
- This is considered positive

A
- Patchy consolidation
- Pleural effusion
- Hilar lymphadenopathy
