clin- ICD and DSMV Flashcards
When was the DSM V introduced?
2013
DSM V differs from DSM IV TR as it is no longer multi axial, what does that mean?
In the DSM-IV-TR system, an individual was diagnosed on five different domains, or “axes.” In a single axis system like DSM-5 is, an individual is diagnosed in just one domain. For example, a clinical disorder, such as major depressive disorder, would be assigned. The multiaxial system was thought to give more detail.
What disorder is no longer (controversially) classified as a separate disorder, and has now been placed on a spectrum?
Autism Spectrum disorder.
How has the diagnosis of schizophrenia changed?
Schizophrenia: Criterion A lists the five key symptoms of psychotic disorders: 1) delusions, 2) hallucinations, 3) disorganized speech, 4) disorganized or catatonic behaviour, and 5) negative symptoms. In DSM-IV 2 of these 5 symptoms were required. However, only 1 of the 5 symptoms was required if delusions were bizarre or if hallucinations included a running commentary on a person’s thoughts/behaviour, and/or two or more voices conversing. This exception has been removed for lack of specificity and poor reliability. In DSM-5, two of these five symptoms are required AND at least one symptom must be one of the first three (delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech).
