Climate change effect on Tropical storms Flashcards
Will climate change affect Tropical storms and why?
Yes because The temperatures rise, warming the world and causing the oceans to become warmer.
What are the effects on the distribution of tropical storms?
- The number of tropical storms in the North atlantic and central pacific have increased in 1980-2018
- In the same period, fewer storms occurred in the southern indian ocean and western northern pacific
What do scientists believe are the main causes of these trends?
Greenhouse gas emissions and aerosols
Give some more info on Aerosols and their effect
With fewer aerosols to block out sunlight, the oceans have warmed, leading to an increase in tropical storms
Give more info on greenhouse gasses and their effect
A higher concentration of greenhouse gasses has warmed the atmosphere and oceans, creating less of a temperature range. This has created a more stable atmosphere and reducing the amount of tropical storms
What are the effects on the frequency of tropical storms?
There is very little scientific evidence, however sources suggest that when there are increases in some regions, there are decreases in others. Very little evidence and no trends
What are the effects on the intensity of tropical storms?
Increased in recent years due to climate change. Warmer and moister air provides extra energy for the formation of tropical storms
