CK Flashcards
What is the C-space?
The C-space is a space where proposals have no logical status in the K-space (concepts). When a concept is formulated, it is impossible to prove that this statement is either true or false in K – it is unknown.
What is the K-space?
The K-space represents current knowledge (technical, regulatory, social, ethical, market, etc.). It is the space in which proposals have a logical status, i.e. things can be true or false.
Explain C-K phases of development
disjunction (K to C) and conjunction (C to K), and partitioning (C to C) which is either restrictive or expansive) and learning (K to K) which can include optimization, reduction, evaluation, modelling.
How does C-K theory differ from ‘thinking outside the box’ and ‘brain-storming’?
C-K theory is about creative design that is actionable. It includes an emphasis on partitioning that is non-obvious (i.e. it should not be only predictive streams, but bring in new knowledge).
The main differentiation between those methods and CK is that expansion in the C space needs to tie back to the K space. There is a feasibility aspect to the concept development. (New ideas are of no interest if they do not trigger knowledge expansions.)
