what is state government
all powers that the federal government does not have

usually includes 2 layers
they are around a busy population center, they run parks and recreation centers. They oversee police and fore department, housing services etc.

taxation. State government can tax you, so can a federal government

the branch of state government responsible for enacting laws. the body is made up of the members of both the House and the Senate.

a group of people with similar ideas on how government should be ran. Politicians of the same political party meet and work together to accomplish common goals.
Census
the process the government goes through to determine the population of the U.S. This occurs every 10 years and effects representation in congress
electoral college
the electoral college works this way; Electors meet and vote president. Congress counts the votes and determines who is president. Who the electors vote for is determined by popular vote in each state.
congressional district
people in each state are divided into districts so they receive equal representation on congress based on population. Each United states districts contains 711,000 people
gerrymandering
the process of redrawing congressional districts in a way that the controlling party gains the advantage.

all powers not delegated to the federal government are given to the the state or people

They both can make laws. They both can decide things on a higher level. they have concurrent powers
the federal government. is nationwide. state government is more local.

a mayor is the leader of a city and town. they have a part . time job and they rule a city or town with about 500 people
