Circulatory systems Flashcards
what is an open circulatory system?
- blood leaves the vessels
- fluid is released into the body then soaks back into the heart through little holes
what is haemocoel?
fluid that bathes the tissues in open circulatory system?
what is a closed circulatory system?
blood stays in the blood vessels
what is a single circulatory system?
blood goes through the heart once to get all the way around the body
what is a double circulatory system?
blood goes through the heart twice to get all the way around the body
why is a double circulatory system more efficient than a single circulatory system?
- higher systemic blood pressure
- faster flow of blood
- more blood supply and it contains more O2
- more metabolically active animals, more respiration
what cells are in the blood?
- erythrocytes
- platelets
- leucocytes (white blood cells)
what cells are in tissue fluid?
some phagocytic white blood cells
what cells are in lymph?
lymphocytes
what proteins are in the blood?
- hormones
- plasma proteins
what proteins are in tissue fluid?
some hormones and proteins secreted by body cells
are there any proteins in lymph?
yes, some
in the blood, tissue fluid and lymph, are there are any fats?
blood - some lipoproteins
tissue fluid - none
lymph - more than blood (absorbed from lacteals by villi)
in the blood, tissue fluid and lymph, is there any glucose?
blood - 80-120mg per 100ml
tissue fluid - less (absorbed by body cells)
lymph - less
in the blood, tissue fluid and lymph, are there any amino acids?
blood - more
tissue fluid - less (absorbed by body cells)
lymph - less
