What is blood a type of?
It’s a type of tissue.
What doe the red blood cell carry?
Oxygen.
What is the job of the red blood cell?
To carry oxygen from the lungs to all the cells in your body.
Why do red blood cells have a concave shape?
To give them a large surface area for absorbing oxygen.
Why don’t red blood cells have a nucleus?
To allow more room to carry oxygen.
What red pigment do red blood cells contain?
Haemoglobin.
What happens with haemoglobin in the lungs?
It combines with oxygen to become oxyhaemoglobin.
What happens to the oxyhaemoglobin in the body tissue?
It splits up into haemoglobin and oxygen to release oxygen into the cells.
What do white blood cells defend against?
Disease.
What can white blood cells produce?
Antibodies to lock into antigens and antitoxins to neutralise the toxins produced by the microorganism.
Do white blood cells have a nucleus?
Yes.
What do platelets help do?
They help blood clot.
What are platelets?
Small fragments of cells.
Do platelets have a nucleus?
No.
What can a lack of platelets cause?
Excessive bleeding and bruising.
