Circulation of CNS Flashcards
The Middle cerebral artery (MCA) is a branch of which artery? where does it run?
internal carotid, runs laterally in the lateral fissure
The anterior cerebral artery (ACA) branches from which artery? where does it run?
from internal carotid -> runs anteriorly in the longitudinal sulcus then curves posteriorly in the superior corpus callosum
What artery supplies the majority of M1 and S1?
MCA -> except lower limb which is supplied by ACA
Which artery (and divisions) supplies Brocas and Wernickes areas?
MCA - superior division for Brocas, and inferior division for Wernickes
What artery supplies the primary visual cortex?
Posterior cerebral artery
What do the vertebral arteries give rise to?
Anterior spinal artery, Postero-inferior cerebellar arteries then unite to form the Basilar artery
Where does the Basilar artery bifurcate? what are its terminal branches?
at the anterior midbrain bifurcates to form the L and R posterior cerebral arteries
