Circular Motion Flashcards
How does Newton’s 1st Law apply to circular motion?
An object in motion or at rest will remain in motion or at rest until acted on by an external unbalanced force:
1. The force is required for an object to change direction towards the center of the circle instead of straight (centripetal force)
How does Newton’s 2nd Law apply to circular motion?
An object will accelerate in the direction of the force:
1. The force must be towards to center of the circle
2. The object will accelerate towards the center of the circle
How does Newton’s 3rd Law apply to circular motion?
Every action force has an equal and opposite reaction force
What does friction do to centripetal force?
Friction increases the Fc which in turn increases the velocity
