What happened on the first day in genesis 1
God said ‘let there be light’ and made light.

He made the sky,
What happened on the third day of genesis 1
He made land and sea. And made land produce vegetation
What happened on the fourth day of genesis 1
Created day and night.
What happened on the fifth day of genesis 1
Made Birds and animals of the sea
What happened on the sixth day of genesis 1
Made animals of the earth. Made humans
What happened on the seventh day of genesis 1
God rests
What happened in genesis 2
God made Adam from dust on the ground. God put adam in the garden of Eden that god had made. God took a rib from Adam and made eve.
What problems are raised by the genesis accounts
- God is omnipotent so why does he need to rest on the 7th day
- Problem of gender equality- an omnibenevolent god would have made Adam and Eve separately
What is the fundamentalist view
They believe that the bible is the word of God.
God is omnipotent so he doesn’t follow scientific laws
What is apparent age
Something some fundamentalists believe- God created everything to appear old. Humans have to be at the beginning of the world so fossils before humans were planted by God.
What is the conservative view
That the bible was written by humans who were inspired by God. They still follow the teachings but don’t take every word as the voice of God.
What’s an example of the conservative view
The Hebrew word ‘yom’ could be translated as day or period of time so it could have taken longer than a week to create earth.
Genesis is just a poetic list and not in order-list theory
What is the liberal Christian view
They regard the bible as words that have been written about God. They might interpret passages differently to fur modern society
Example of the liberal view
When reading the creation story they might believe the story is simply a story to help Christian’s understand that god is the creator of the world
Why does the Big Bang theory go against genesis
Challenges fundamentalist view that the world was created in days. Big bang says billions of years
Why does the Big Bang theory go with genesis
Could be compatible with conservative but especially liberal views. -god initiates the Big Bang process
Problems with the apparent age theory
Epistemic distance- there is a gap in knowledge between what Gods wants us to do and what we think he wants us to do.
Translations of the bible changes it’s meaning and might change how one takes the law
What is the trinity
The trinity is the foundational Christian belief that God is one being who exists in three entities
Problems of the trinity and answer to that
How is god father and son- god is omnipotent and omnipresent and in everyone so he doesn’t conform normal laws of nature
