Q

The sacrament of Holy Communion/Eucharist:

  • Significance + Meanings
  • Interpretations
  • Different way it is celebrated
A

HOLY COMMUNION
- Catholics believe it is a sacrament only for the real believers for grace to enter them - outward signs of inward grace.
- Others consider it not as a sacrament but rather a reminder of the Last Supper.

INFLUENCE:
- Christians feel closer to God
- Christians feel more like a community (fellowship).

Catholics and Orthodox believe bread and wine consumed become the Body of Jesus - how this happens is a divine mystery. By taking the communion they become present at the death and resurrection of Jesus.

'’This is my body which is broken for you, do this in remembrance of me’’
‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.’“

How is the Holy communion celebrated? - 2 different ways.

Catholic Mass: In the Catholic Church, the Eucharist is celebrated during Mass, where bread and wine are consecrated by a priest through the process of transubstantiation, believed to change the substance of the bread and wine into the actual Body and Blood of Christ.

Protestant Communion Service: In Protestant churches, Holy Communion may be celebrated in different forms, such as the Lord’s Supper or Communion service, during this period they meditate and speak in tongues.
