Chianti 2000 areas of study
Grape varieties: Sangiovese, colorino, canaiolo, Malvasia Nero
Rootstocks: also with grafting tech
Planting density: tested from 3000-9000 plants per hectare
Vine training: tested both foreign and traditional
Soil management: specifically grass growing
Clonal selection: 24 Sangiovese tested, 8 canaiolo, 2 colorino
Chianti 2000 results
Planting density of 5000 is optimal
Espalier system at 60 cm optimal
Use of grass cover crop and avoid working soil on inclines
ID’d 7 clones of Sangiovese and 1 of colorino that consists th gave smaller berries, thicker skins, and more open bunches
