Q

When you rub a balloon on your jumper, why do they stick together?

A

When you rub a balloon on your jumper some electrons are transferred from your jumper to the balloon. The balloon now has an overall negative charge. Your jumper now has an overall positive charge. The two objects attract.

Q

What is an electric field?

A

There is an electric field around a charge, Just as there is a gravitational field around mass. If you put a charged object around an electric field a force will act on it.
