Chapyer 3.4 Flashcards
What the type of organisms are the protozoans, algae, fungi, plants, and animals?
Are the eukaryotic organisms similar in terms of structure and function?
They are Eukaryotic and vary in structure and function
Describe nucleus, nuclear envelop and nuclear pores in eukaryotes.
Nucleus: holds the dna, command center
Nuclear envelope: complex nuclear membrane
Nuclear pores: allows movement in and out of nuclear envelope.
How many nucleus does a typical eukaryotic cell have? Which types of cells may
have 2 nuclei?
Eukaryotic cells usually have one nucleus. Protozoans usually have two nucleus.
How many types of ribosomes can be found in a typical eukaryotic cell? What and
Where are they inside the cell?
80s ribosomes. They are usually inside the cytoplasm a and their function is to synthesize water-soluble proteins. Membrane-bound ribosomes are found attached to the rough endoplasmic reticulum and make proteins for insertion into the cell membrane or proteins destined for export from the cell.
Which type of those organisms have cell walls in their individual cell level? What are
their roles?
Fungi - chitin
• Algae and Protists - biogenic silica, calcium carbonate, agar, and
carrageenan
• Plants, algae and fungi - cellulose
Cells walls provide structure and stability.
Compare and contrast Prokaryotes (Bacteria, Archaea) and Eukaryotes.
Prokaryotes: high surface area to volume rate, no nucleus, single chromosome, haploid, and circular
Eukaryotes: low surface area to volume rate, nucleus, haploid or diploid, multiple chromosomes, and linear.
