Chapter 9 Infection Control and Emergency Flashcards
Constancy of the body’s internal environment.
Homeostasis
Autoimmune, cancerous, deficiency, degenerative, genetic, infectious, metabolic
Types of diseases
Inappropriate or excessive response of the body’s immune functions rejection of the body
Autoimmune
Uncontrollable growth of abnormal cells
Cancerous
Lack of essential vitamin mineral or nutrients in a diet.
Deficiency
Tissue breakdown caused by overuse syndrome
Degenerative
Abnormality in genetic code
Genetic
Caused by biological agents such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa and parasites
Infectious
Physiological dysfunctions that disrupt the body’s metabolism
Metabolic
Biological agent capable of causing disease
Pathogen
Occurs when an infectious or pathogenic agent transfers from a reservoir which is the source to a host which is the destination to a direct contact ,vehicle , or vector transmission or inhalation
Contamination
The study of biological and physical manifestation of disease.
Pathology
Diseases can transmitted by:
*Person to person via physical contact including sexual or blood transfusions
- Animal to Person via touching, nite or scratch from an infected animal
- Mother to fetus via pathogens crossing the placenta and infecting the unborn
- vehicle transmission, vector transmissions, inhalation
Modes Of Direct Contact of Disease Transmission
Organisms are transmitted on common objects such as food water door knobs undercooked meats
Vehicle transmission
Involves stings or bites from insects
Vector transmission
