Steps in Costume Design
reads script 3 times- pleasure, specifics, qualities(age, traits, etc)
meets with director and other designers to coordinate look of the show
Costume Designer and Responsibilities
pulling- choose costume owned by theatre company or warehouse, not owned
building- create costume from scratch, first makes muslin mock ups(cheap material that fits the actor)
Elements of Costume Design
Line- how does costume shape the body, can indicate time period
Color- suggests mood, personality, age, can indicate changes in a character
Fabric- texture of it, can communicate meaning and changes visual aspects
Makeup Design
application of cosmetics to body
helps performer become that character
mostly needed to correct for age
needed for bruises, etc
