Chapter 8- Skeletal System Articulations Flashcards
fibrous joints
-sutures -gomphosis -syndesmosis
suture location and movement
located in between skull bones, - synarthrosis
gomphosis location and movement
located in mandible and maxillary alveolar process -synarthrosis
syndesmosis
location can include distal articulation between tibia and fibula and the interosseous membrane between the radius and ulna -amphiarthrosis
synovial joints
hinge, planar, pivot, condylar (ellipsoidal), saddle, ball and socket -diarthrosis -monoaxial, biaxial, triaxial
cartilaginous joints
-symphisis -synchondrosis
symphysis
wedge of fibrous cartilage that separated joints -articulation between adjacent vertebral bodies -pubic symphysis -amphiarthrosis
synchondosis
-diaphysis and epiphysis are bound together by such joint -synarthrosis
jaw joint (name, location, specific landmarks, movement)
temporomandibular joint -mandibular fossa of temporal bone and condylar process of jaw -2 synovial joints, one btwn articulating disk and temporal bone, and one between articular disc and mandible -hinge joint -depression/elevation, some circumduction and gliding
joint between skull and vertebrae
antlanto-occipital joint -foramen magnum of occipital bone and superior articular facets of atlas -flexion (down)/extension(up) of joint -hinge joint
neck joint for “no” movement
atlanto-axial joint -pivot joint -rotation (right and left) -between dens of axis and articular facet for dens of axis
name of hip joint
sacro-iliac joint -acetabulum and femoral head -ball-and-socket joint -flexion/extension, adduction/abduction, circumduction, rotation
shoulder joint
gleno-humoral joint -head of humerus and glenoid cavity of scapula -ball-and-socket joint -flexion/extension, adduction/abduction, circumduction, rotation
ankle joint
talocrural joint -3 articulations make this up: inferior articular facet of tibia and trochlea of talus, inferior articular facet of fibula and talus, tibia and fibula joint -hinge joint -dorsiflexion and plantar flexion
joint between clavicle and scapula
acromioclavicular joint -acromion of scapula and acromial end of clavicle plane joint -sliding
elbow joint (just radius and ulna)
proximal radioulnar joint -head of radius articulates with radial notch of ulna -pivot joint -pronation/supination
wrist joint of radius and ulna
distal radioulnar joint -head of ulna and ulnar notch of radius -pivot joint -rotation/supination
joint between radius and carpals
radialcarpal joint -radius, lamate, scaphoid -condylar joint -biaxial -adduction/abduction, flexion/extension, circumduction
