Q

What is DNA?

A

Deoxyribonuclic acid
Genetic information an organism inherits from their parents
Provides info for controlling cells activities
Directs the synthesis of mRNA
And through mRNA the cells proteins are made

Q

What is the difference between the sugars in RNA and DNA ?

A

For dna the sugar on carbon 2 prime lacks a oxygen
And for rna the sugar on carbon 2 prime contains an oxygen (hydroxyl)

15
Q

What did Watson and crick say ?

A

DNA consists of two seperate dna polymers called strands (polynucleotide)
These two strands are twisted around each other to form a double helix
Strands are held together by hydrogen bonds between the nitrogenous strands

16
Q

How are the dna strands orientiend ?

A

They’re oriented in opposite directions also known as antiparallel

17
Q

How does DNA replicate ?

A

In a semiconservative fashion
After dna replication Is done the strand is 50 percent parental and 50 percent new dna
