- How did the Bakker and Swaggart scandals affect the Assemblies of God?
A
The scandals damaged the A/G’s reputation, the Christian witness and evangelism. Some members were defrauded through the PTL Club. Missions projects such as children’s feeding and education programs, medical ministries and Bible schools suffered when Swaggart stopped giving toward them. Although the scandals produced bad publicity for the A/G, eventually it was recognized for its stand.
