A
  • the sounds the “t” are what make allophones
  • they are considered to be the same
  • ex: hit, tip, & little

what are minimal pairs ?

A

they are distinct words in a language which differ in only one or limited number phonological elements

like if there are 2 two words in a set = its a minimal pair

what are minimal sets?

A

minimal sets are groups of words that are all the same except for one sound

ex. big, pig, rig, fig, dig, wig

syllables - what are onset, rhyme, nucleus/coda ?

A
  • onset’s = there’s segments that come before the nucleus called onset
  • if there are segments after the nucleus = that’s called coda
  • when the nucleus and coda come together its forms a rhyme
  • nucleus + coda = rhyme
