Explain the difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Systolic blood pressure is the pressure exerted on the artery wall as the heart contracts. Diastolic blood pressure is the pressure on the artery wall when the heart relaxes and is filling again. When blood pressure is recorded, the systolic pressure is the higher number on the top, and the diastolic pressure is the lower number on the bottom.
