Egalitarian
The belief that all people are equal and deserve equal rights
Common Good
Benefitting as a society as a whole
I.e. Safety, public health.
Public Property
Anything not owned by private individuals.
Usually owned by the government
Economic Equality
Maintaining equal wealth among society members with the same status in the economy
Done through taxation and wage control
“Wealth redistribution”
Collective interest
Goals of the group members work together.
That goal benefits the whole group
Collective responsibility
The group is responsible for the actions of all group members.
Each member is responsible for the group.
Collective Security
Mutual Protection.
I look after you, and you look after me.
Eg. United States.
Adherence to Collective norms
Acceptable behaviors, values, and traditions that ALL members must follow.
Don’t be weird or we’ll skin you in public.
Cooperation
Working together to achieve the wants and needs of a group.
Privatization
Government selling a public company to a private investor. Then the company becomes private property.
I.e: Petro Canada oil company used to be owned by the Canadian government which meant it was public property. When the Canadian government sold it to the private company Suncor, it became a private company.
Karl Marx
Wrote the Communist Manifesto
- Workers unite and rise up against property owners
- Create a classless society
- The government controls industry and property
- All property shared by all
- No individual should rule over others
