Chapter 2.6: Cloud Computing Flashcards
What is cloud computing?
The use of distributed storage and processing on servers connected by the internet,
typically provided as software or data storage as a subscription service provided by other companies
What does cloud computing enables?
It enables users to access and use the web applications that reside in vast data centres located around the world instead of on their own personal computers
Why is it called cloud computing?
because most network diagrams denote the internet as a cloud
Advantages of cloud computing?
massive on demand scalability
dynamically provisioned to achieve:
- economies of scale (cost per unit of output decreasing with increasing scale as fixed costs are spread over more units)
- saving businesses money
- billed like utilities
What is the difference between cloud computing model and client/server models
software and the data reside on the servers in the cloud and not client machines
Concerns of cloud computing
network disruption, data not available, security and privacy
