  • a return to conventional genres and forms (Baroque and classical eras)
  • suite, sonata, concerto, concerto gross, ritornello principle, sonata form, rondo, and theme and variations.
  • a return to the ideal of absolute music (music not connected with a text or program of any kind.)
  • a generally tendancy toward transparent textures, lighter orchestration, and smaller ensembles in general.
  • Conciseness of expressionism, avoiding grandiose or bombastic gestures.
