Process of acquiring and interpreting information from sensory data.
Perception

Looking-glass self
Social categories that we and other identify as important characteristics of who we are.
Identity
Identity traits that we are born with and that are significant parts of who we are.
Primary dimensions
Identities that we acquire, develop, or discard throughout our lives.
Secondary dimensions
The perspectives from which a person views and evaluates society.
Standpoint
Perception of who we are and what makes us unique as well as similar to others.
Self-concept
Words used to describe ourselves and others.
Labels
Process of understanding our sense of self based on other’s observations, judgements, and evaluations of our behavior.
Symbolic interactionism
To act in accordance to expectations
Self-fulfilling prophecy
How we feel about ourselves based on perceptions of our own strengths and weaknesses.
Self-esteem
The process of developing an image of who we are based on the way others describe us.
Reflected appraisal
Comparing ourselves with others in order to determine our value or worth in relationship to that other person.
Social comparison.
When we consider a series of statements or questions to confirm(or challenge) our perceptions of others and their behaviors.
Perception checking.
