What is the meaning of the human resources function?
The human resources function is responsible for administering and controlling the workfoce of the business to achieve it’s objectives.
What is the meaning of recruitment?
Recruitment is used by a business to identify vacancies and look for candidates for a job.
Explain the recruitment procedure?
The human resources manager identifies vacancies and looks for a job needed in the business.
The job description and specifications are prepared.
The key performances are determined.
Choose what recruitment source is going to be used.
Identify the sources of recruitment and explain them.
Internal source of recruitment Business recruits someone within the business. Ways word can be spread is Emails Word of mouth Notice boards
External source of recruitment Business recruits candidates outside the business. Ways word can be spread is Social media Newpapers Billboards
What is the meaning of selection?
Selection is process that takes place after recruitment and business recieves application forms from possible candidates
Explain what happens in the selection process
Applicants must submit the application form theeir ID and other personal documents.
CVs must be sorted according to the assessment criteria
Those candidates who meet the job description the least should be put to one side
Hold a preliminary interview to get to know about possible candidates
Inform the candidates that have been chosen by a written employment letter.
What are some of the roles the interviewer has during an interview?
Allocate the same amount of time to each candidate
Introduce the candidate to the interviewing panel
Explain the purpose of the interview
Do not mislead the interviewee
What is the employment contract?
The employment contract is an agreement between the employer and employee and us legally binding.
What are some of the aspects of the employment contract?
Full name and surname of the employer
Job description
Job specifications
Salary
Working hours
Signatures of employer and employee.
What is the meaning of induction?
Induction is the process of the new employee to be introduced to the business management and collegues
State the purpose of induction.
To introduce employee to colleagues and establish relationships
To make the employee feel welcome
Create a sense of security
Create realistic expectations
Make the employee become productive as soon as possible.
Differentiate between gross pay and net pay
Gross salary is the salary earned before any deductions were made such ad medical aid pension fund allowances
Net salary is the salary taken home after deductions such as income tax and investments.
Differentiate between piecemeal and time related salary payment
Piecemeal
Workers are paid according to the number of products sold.
Business doesn’t care about how much time they spent selling the products
Mostly used in factories
Time related
Workers are paid according to how many hours they spent working.
They are paid according to time and not by how much they’ve done.
Mostly used in private and public businesses.
