Sex Chromosome
One of two chromosomes that determines an individual’s sex
X Chromosome
A female sex chromosome. Females have 2 copies of these.
Y Chromosome
A male sex chromosome. Males have one copy of this chromosome, and one copy of the X chromosome
Autosome
Chromosome that is not a sex chromosome, also called autosomal chromosome
Sex-linked Gene (Trait)
Gene located on a sex chromosome
Pedigree
Chart that shows the presence or absence of a trait according to the relationships within a family across several generations
Carrier
Someone who is heterozygous and passes on the recessive allele to their offspring.
Antigen
Any substance that triggers an immune response
Antibody
A protein that either attacks antigens directly or produces antigen-binding proteins
Karyotype
Micrograph of the complete diploid set of chromosomes grouped together in pairs, arranged in order of decreasing size
