Henry VIII

A

At first, he stood firmly against the Protestant revolt, but an issue arose that caused him to turn against the Church. He needed a male heir so he wanted a divorce to marry another woman in hope she would bear him a son. When pope refused, he was furious. He had the Parliament pass a series of laws and eventually the Act of Supremacy in 1534, which made him “the only supreme head on Earth of the Church of England.”
