Chapter 11a Flashcards
sequence
A function whose domain is the set of natural numbers (term numbers), and whose range is the set of term values.
arithmetic sequence
A sequence in which one term is equal to a constant added to the preceding term.
geometric sequence
A sequence in which each term equals a constant multiplied by the preceding term.
arithmetic mean
Numbers which form arithmetic sequences with the two given numbers
geometric mean
Numbers which form geometric sequences with the two given numbers
series
indicated sum of the terms of a sequence.
nth partial sum
Sum of the first n terms of that series.
arithmetic series
Series which results from adding the terms of an arithmetic sequence, respectively.
Geometric series
Series which results from adding the terms of a geometric sequence, respectively.
converges
A series COVERGES to a number of S if the partial sums, Sn stay arbitrarily close to S as n gets very large.
common ratio
the amount between each number in a geometric sequence.
common difference
the difference between two consecutive terms of an arithmetic progression.
limit
When n approaches infinity
