Chapter 10 Flashcards
What is the minimum level of measurement for ANOVA?
Interval
When would you use ANOVA instead of a t-test?
When you want to work with more than two groups
Describe one-way ANOVA
compares the means of several groups on one factor like different college majors or different continents.
Describe two-way ANOVA
compare means of groups that have two or more factors like college major and gender doing those factors at the same time
What are main effects in a two-way ANOVA?
Where ONE independent variable effects or influences a dependent variable.
What are interactions in a two-way ANOVA?
The two independent variables have a combined effect on the dependent variable that is not present with either independent variable alone.
What are all the different probability distribution used for in ANOVA? (type of distribution, positive or negative, symmetrical or not, and disagrees of freedom.) (4)
- F distribution
- ALWAYS POSITIVE
- ALWAYS ASYMMETRICAL
- has multiple degrees of freedom (dfb = k − 1)
What are the range of values for eta-squared?
0-1
ZERO TO ONE
What goes into calculating eta-squared? (CHECK THIS ONE)
η2 = SSeffect / (SSeffect + SSerror) SS effect = the sum of squares for the difference between the group means, SS error = is sum of squares for the error, or the individual differences in each group that is not predicted by the equation.
