He helped create the Dale Code, which is very similar to Martial Law. The Dale Code did not last very long
House of Burgesses
1st elected government in the New World. It was established in Virginia, and had 2 representatives from each plantation.
Separatist
Someone who wants to separate from Church of England, due to the Church of England being too close to Catholicism
Puritans
Someone who wanted to purify the Church of England, and get rid of all ties of the Christian Church.
Sameul de Champlain
He was a French explorer and went to Canada to settle there, and took 11 trips to the New World, and founded Quebec.
Henry Hudson
An English man who sailed for the Dutch, and went to explore the Hudson River to find the North West Passage. While exploring, his sailors revolted, put him on a dingy, and let him go down the river. He was never heard of again.
Massachusetts Bay Colony
Founded in 1620 by John Winthrop and William Bradford. It was founded for Religious Tolerance. Their money-makers are lumber, fishing, and ship building.
John Winthrop Sr.
Was a Puritan Lawyer. He ended the court-case for Anne Hutchinson. Governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and has a mid-set to build “A City Upon a Hill”.
Great Migration
The time period between 1630-1640 where an estimated 20,000 people came to the New World.
Rhode Island
Founded in 1636 by Roger Williams to have separation of Church and State. Their money-maker is farming and livestock.
Roger Williams
Founder of Rhode Island. Wants separation of Church and State. He was a former minister for the Church of England. When he came to the NW in 1631, he was angry at them at taking the Native American’s land, and wants them to pay. The citizens want him to go to England, but he goes to RI and then goes to England to get the charter for RI.
Anne Hutchinson
She is a separatist from Massachusetts Bay Colony, and went against the Church’s belief, saying that you don’t need the Church to understand the Bible, and also says that the Holy Spirit talked to her, telling her that only two or three ministers are doing a good job. She went to Rhode Island.
John Winthrop Jr.
One of the founders of Connecticut, and wanted to expand, and get more resources.
