Chapter 1 - Important Terms Flashcards
Components of a Feedback loop?
Stimulus, Sensor, Control Center, Effector
Positive Feedback
When deviation occurs, the response is to make the deviation greater.
Homeostasis
The maintenance of a relatively constant internal environment of the body
Negative Feedback
Counteracts a change in a variable by decreasing the change to maintain homeostasis.
Feedback System
A mechanism that regulates internal conditions of an organism
6 levels of organization (Small to Big)
Chemical, Cell, Tissue, organ, organ system, organism.
Tissue Level
A community of similar cells that form a bodily tissue.
Organ Level
A two or more similar tissues that combine to form an organ.
Organ System Level
Two or more organs that work together to perform a function or meet a physiological need of the body.
Organism Level
Many organ systems that work together to perform functions for an independent organism.
Chemical Level
Atoms bonded to form molecules with 3-Dimensional structures.
Cellular Level
Molecules combined to form fluid and organelles of a body cell.
Sagittal Plane
Divides body into left and right
Frontal Plane
Divides body into anterior and posterior
Transverse Plane
Divides body into superior and inferior.
