Chapter 0 - Pre Requsite Skills Flashcards
To represent functions, we use notations such as, _______.
Also use an example like y=my + b
f(x) or g(x)
And an example would be
f(x)= 2x + 1
Given -2f(4x) in f(x)= x^2 + 3x -2
Explain how to solve.
- BEDMAS Multiply or square(given the situation) everything where an (x) is present.
- BEDMAS Substitute the f(x) is present in the equation.
- BEDMAS Finish everything check everything where common factors are available.
Y=my + b, has m =____ and b = ____.
Y=my + b, has m = slope and b = y intercept.
Given y=3x - 1 find m and y intercept
M = 3 Y = -1
Given 2x - 7y = 14 solve for m and y.
M = 2/7
Y = -2
Given Y + 2 = 7(x - 1) solve for m and y intercept.
M = 7
Y = -9
What is the slope formula? Give the formula
The slope formula is a way to find the slope of an equation or line given that you have 2 coordinates.
M = y2-y1/x2-x1
Write the equation into y= my + b, when the slope is -1 and the y-intercept is 7.
Y= -x + 7
Solve in y= my + b, when the Slope is 2 and the line passes through the point (1, -4).
Y= my + b
(1, -4) let the coordinate be your x and y in the equation.
- 4 = 2(1) + b then solve for b
- 6 = b
Standard Form
If a > 0 parabola opens ____ and has a _______
If a < 0 parabola opens _____ and has a _______
C is the __ intercept
If a > 0 parabola opens up and has a minimum.
If a < 0 parabola opens down and has a maximum.
C is the y-intercept
What is the model for standard form
Y= ax^2 + bx + c
Where abc is the constants and c /= 0
Y= 3x^2 - 4x + 7
What is the a value and what way does it open up or down? Does it have a max or min?
What is it’s y intercept
a = 3 so 3 > 0 so it has a minimum
7 is the y intercept
Factored Form
a > 0 the parabola opens ____ and has a ______
a < 0 the parabola opens _____ and has a _______
Values r and s are the ________
a > 0 the parabola opens up and has a minimum
a < 0 the parabola opens down and has a maximum
Values r and s are the x intercepts
What is the model for Factored Form
Y= a(x - r)(x - s)
Where a, r and a are the constants a/= 0
Vertex Form
If a > 0 the parabola opens _____ and has a _______.
If a < 0 the parabola opens _____ and has a ________
(_, _) is the vertex
If a > 0 the parabola opens up and has a minimum.
If a < 0 the parabola opens down and has a maximum
(h, k) is the vertex
