Chap 15 Flashcards
Law of Magnetism
Unlike poles attract, like poles repel
when magnetic materials come into contact with magnets, what happens.
The material becomes an induced magnet and becomes attracted to the magnet
North and South, which attracts and which gets attracted
South attracts North
Methods of magnetizing
Stroking and Electrical
Electrical Method of magnetizing
Using Right hand grip rule
if current going up when facing you, thumb faces right thus North is right
if current going down, thumb faces left, thus North is left
Methods of demagnetizing
Heating
Hammering
Electrical Method using alternating current
Iron vs Steel (and such)
Iron is a soft material, which means it’s easily magnetised and demagnetised. They do not retain their magnetism and are good for temporary magnets.
Steel is a hard material, which means it’s harder to magnetise and demagnetise. They retain their magnetism easily and thus are a good permanent magent
what does a dot and cross mean in a circuit
Dot : current flowing out of the paper
Cross : current flowing into the paper
Fleming left hand rule
Thumb is Force
Index is Magnetism
Middle Finger is Charge
