Chakra
Means “wheel” or “disc”
Energetic clusters in the subtle body
Seven major ones located along spinal column
Spinal column is where three major nadis intersect
At the point where Sushumna, Ida, and Pingala intersect, a chakra is formed
Muladhara
First chakra
Base of spine, pelvic floor, feet/legs
Red, earth, waking state
Governs home, food, water, basic needs, parents, family relationships, biological imperative to survive
Svadisthana
Second chakra
Reproductive organs, womb, hips, sacrum, lower abs
Orange, dreams, emotions, water
Governs intimacy, intimate relationships, creativity, adventure, movement, pleasure, connection, sensuality
Manipura
Third chakra
Abdominals, lumbar spine, obliques, detox organs (stomach, liver, spleen, pancreas)
Yellow, ego identity, activity is motivated by desire to be seen and acknowledged as unique and individual
Governs confidence, self esteem, personal power, how we are seen by others, our personal role in society, relationship with the ego
Anahata
Fourth chakra
Heart center (through shoulders, arms, hands), lungs, circulatory system, thymus, thoracic spine
Green, selflessness, working for the welfare of others
Governs compassion, selfless service, attitude towards giving and receiving, understanding others, empathy, unconditional love
Vishuddha
Fifth chakra
Cervical spine, neck, throat, thyroid gland, tongue, lymphatic system, vocal cords, jaw
Turquoise, light blue, pure
Governs truth and authentic voice, communication, self-mastery and self control, integrity, honesty, truthful relationship with the self
Ajna
Sixth chakra
Forehead, space between eyebrows (third eye)
Indigo violet, command center, transcendence of all dualistic realities
Governs intuition, knowledge, humility, clear sight, relationship with the teacher in all things, relationship with time
Sahasrara
Seventh chakra
The space between the crown and several inches above the head
Violet, white, light, only unconditional love exists, the soul search is over, everything just is
Governs consciousness, relationship with the divine, understanding
Connection to the highest Self, the universe, and the divine, you see the interconnectedness of all things
