CH12 Genetics and evolution Flashcards
1
Q
Dominant vs Recessive
stuff used for heterozygous:
- Incomplete dominance
A
- Dominant: only one copy of an allele (chromosome) is needed to express a given phenotype
- Recessive: Two copies are needed to express the phenotype
- Incomplete dominance: i.e HH (long tail) x hh (short tail) = Hh (medium tail)
2
Q
nucleotide level mutations
A
3
Q
Hardy-Weinberg principle
A
p + q = 1
p2 + 2pq + q2 = 1
(p2 = TT , 2pq = Tt , q2 = tt)
4
Q
Divergent, Paralell, and convergent evolution
A
Divergent: species sharing a common ancestor become more different
Parallel: species sharing common ancestor evolve in similar ways due to similars pressures
Convergent evolution: species not sharing a recent ancestor evolve to become more similar
