What is Developmental Psychopathology?
The study of the development of psychological disorders with a life course perspective. Researchers who work from this perspective emphasize how psychopathology can be understood as normal development gone awry.
What is Statistical Deviance?
The infrequency of certain emotions, cognitions, and/or behaviors. Statistical indicated that these are typically data-based.
What are Sociocultural Norms?
The beliefs and expectations of certain groups about what kinds of emotions, cognitions, and/or behaviors are undesirable or unacceptable
What is Developmental Epidemiology?
The study of the frequencies and patterns of distributions of disorders in infants, children, and adolescents that can be estimated with varied methodologies and within varied groups.
What is Prevalence?
The proportion of a population with a disorder.
What is Incidence?
The rate at which new cases arise (i.e., all new cases in a given time period).
What does the term “Barriers to care” mean?
Any sort of obstacle that limits or prevents people from receiving adequate care.
What is Stigmatization?
Negative attitudes or discrimination against someone based on a distinguishing characteristic such as a mental illness, health condition, or disability.
