Ch 3: The Epithelium Flashcards
1
Q
Overview of Germ Layers:
A
- Fertilized Egg divides many times to produce many small cells.
- These cells arrange themselves into three germ layers
- Ectoderm
- Mesoderm
- Endoderm
- These germ layers then differentiate into various kinds of tissues.
2
Q
Ectoderm Gives Rise to:
A
- Epidermis, glands on skin, some cranial bones, pituitary and adrenal medulla, the nervous system, the mouth between cheek and gums, the anus.
- Skin cells.
- Neurons
- Pigment Cell
3
Q
Mesoderm gives rise to:
A
- Connective tissues proper, bone, cartilage, blood, endothelium of blood vessels, muscle synovial membranes, serous membranes lining body cavities, kidneys, lining of gonads.
- Cardiac muscle
- Skeletal muscle
- Tubule cell of kidney
- Red blood cells
- Smooth muscle
4
Q
Endoderm Gives Rise to:
A
-Lining of airways and digestive system except the mouth and distal part of the digestive system (rectum and anal canal); glands (digestive glands, endocrine glands, adrenal cortex).
- Lung cell
- Thyroid cell
- Pancreatic cell
5
Q
Overview of Tissues:
A
-A tissue is defined as a group of cells of common origin that perform a common function
- Tissues are building blocks of organs.
