What is an indirect statement?
A statement that the speaker is reporting
(Example: “Did you hear that Hope loves Faith?”
“Hope loves Faith” is the indirect statement. It is not a direct quote.)
What word typically introduces an indirect statement in English?
“that”
How does Latin typically introduce an indirect statement?
Infinitive phrase (an infinitive + its accusative subject)
What is time relative?
That Latin participles and infinitives get their tense from the main verb
If the Latin infinitive is in the present tense how should it be translated in relation to the main verb?
at the same time (is, was, etc)
If the Latin infinitive is in the perfect tense how should it be translated in relation to the main verb?
as a time prior to the action of the main verb (had, has, etc.)
If the Latin infinitive is in the future tense how should it be translated in relation to the main verb?
as a time after the action of the main verb (would, will, etc)
