Accidental Injuries
Injuries that result from an accident
Accident Chain
A series of events that include a situation, an unsafe habit, and an unsafe action
Defensive Driving
Watching out for other people on the road and anticipating unsafe acts
Tornado
A whirling, funnel-shaped windstorm that may drop from the sky to the ground
Hurricane
A strong windstorm with driving rain that originates at sea
Blizzard
A very heavy snowstorm with winds up to 45 miles per hour.
Earthquake
A violent shaking movement of the earths surface
First Aid
The immediate temporary care given to an injured or ill person until he or she can get professional help
Universal Precautions
Actions taken to prevent the spread of disease by treating all blood as if it were contaminated
Sprain
A condition in which the ligaments that hold the joints in position are stretched or torn
Fracture
A break in the bone
Heat Cramps
Painful, involuntary muscle spasms that usually occur during strenuous exercise in hot weather
Heat Exhaustion
Characterized by faintness, nausea, rapid heartbeat and hot, red ,dry, or sweaty skin
Heatstroke
The most serious form of heat illness
Abdominal Thrusts
Involves quick upward pulls into the diaphragm to force out an obstruction blocking the airway
