the manner in which the speaker relates the verbal idea to reality
What is the indicative mood?
the speaker affirms the factuality of the statement

Imperative mood, subjunctive mood, infinitive mood, indicative mood, and optative mood
What is the imperative mood?
expresses a command
Lord have mercy
What is the subjunctive mood?
Expresses contingency (a future event) [expresses possibility, probability, and exhortations] (we have should mercy)
What is the infinitive mood?
expresses a verbal idea without specifying person and number
to have mercy
What is the optative mood?
expresses a polite request
may he have mercy
What is called the mood of reality?
Why?
The indicative
Because it affirms the factuality of an action
What are the other moods besides indicative called?
Why?
potential moods
they repersent action that is possible but not actual
What is voice?
the way in which the speaker chooses to relate the grammatical subject of a verb to the action of a verb
What are the different voices?
Active, middle, and passive
What is active?
When the subject is presented as performing the action
I hear a man
What is middle?
subject is pictured as acting in its own interest
I run to work
What is the passive?
the subject is pictured being acted upon
I am being heard
What are the tenses?
Present, future, imperfect, aorist, perfect, pluperfect, and future perfect
