What are risk factors for Cervical Cancer?
HPV 16 and 18
Smoking
HIV
Many sexual partners
High parity
Lower socioeconomic status
COCP
What are symptoms of cervical cancer?
Unexplained vaginal bleeding
Abnormal vaginal discharge- can be bloody
Dyspareunia
Pelvic pain
Abnormal cervical appearance
What is the screening process?
Aged 25-49 years 3 yearly screening process
50-64 5 yearly
Test for HPV first and if positive then cytology done
What is the management of a negative HPV test?
Return to normal recall
Unless had treatment for test of cure/ borderline changes previously detected
What is the management of a positive HPV test?
Cytology
If abnormal
- colposcopy
If normal cytology
- repeat in 12 months time
What is the management of a repeat HPV test?
If HPV negative- return to normal recall
If HPV positive and normal cytology- repeat 12 months later
12 months later
- HPV negative- return to normal recall
- HPV positive- colposcopy
What should be done if the sample was inadequate?
Repeat after 3 months- if 2 consecutive inadequate samples then colopscopy
What is the treatment for CIN?
LETZ procedure is most common
