Cerebellar microarchitecture Flashcards
What are the 3 layers of the cerebellum?
Molecular
Purkinje cell
Granular
What is the main output and input to the cerebellum
Input= mossy fibre Output= purkinje cells
What synapses onto a purkinje cell?
Parallel fibres- 150,000 synapses
Climbing fibres- one single input
What sort of firing does C.F cause
Complex spikes
What is the marr-albus model?
To learn how to make accurate movements there must be an error signal- to let you know when movements arent accurate
What occurs when a mossy fibre and climbing fibre fire?
Depression of the parallel fibre/ purkinje cell synapse
What is the de-correlation learning rule?
Learning stops when there is no longer a correlation between any PF signal and CF signal
How was this theory tested
vestibulo-ocular reflex
inactivation of flocculus prevents VOR adaptation
Apart from motor control what else does the cerebellum effect
- Sensory prediction- tickling
- Emotional and cognitive processing
- Autism, dyslexia and schizophrenia
What do P cells receive?
CF input from a unique region of the inferior olive
Where do P cells project?
a unique region of the deep cerebellar nuclei
