Cellular Respiration & Transport Flashcards
Define metabolism.
All chemical processes occuring in an organism at once.
Define anabolic pathways.
Pathways that consume energy to build complicated molecules from simpler ones.
Provide an example of an anabolic pathways.
Photosynthesis.
What is a catabolic pathway?
Pathways that release energy by breaking down complex molecules into simpler ones.
Provide an example of a catabolic pathway.
Cellular respiration.
What is ATP?
A molecule that releases energy through the loss of phosphate groups.
Distinguish aerobic respiration from anaerobic respiration.
- Aerobic requires oxygen.
- Anaerobic does not.
What are the three stages of cellular respiraton?
- Glycolysis
- Kreb’s Cycle
- Electron Transport Chain
Where does Glycolysis occur?
Cytosol.
What’s the first step of glycolysis?
2ATP is used to split a glucose molecule into 2 pyruvates.
What happens to pyruvates after being created in glycolysis?
Each pyruvate releases 2ATP & 2NADH, totalling allowing a net gain of 2ATP and 2NADH
Is glycolysis aerobic or anaerobic?
Anaerobic.
What are the types of transport
