What is a cell?

A

A cell is the basic building block of all living things. While some cells do look different, all cells have three basic features. (Nucleus, Cytoplasm and cell membrane.)

What is the cell theory?

A
  • Basic unit of structure and function in living organisms in the CELL.
  • All living things are made up of cells.
  • New cells are formed by the division of pre-existing cells.
  • Cells contain genetic material, which is passed on from parent to daughter cells.
  • All metabolic reactions take place inside cells.

What is gas exchange?

A

Oxygen dissolves in the moist surface of the alveoli and moves by a process called diffusion across the short distance from the space inside the alveolus to the blood. Oxygen is the needed product, carbon dioxide is the waste product.
